This morning I didn’t want to run. Not at all. I was tired and wanted to put it off. Wanted to stay in bed.
Instead, I ran my fastest 5k yet. Just over 31 minutes. What the heck?
Somehow I managed to do all my normal routine stuff, but got out there about 10 minutes later than I wanted to. The only change? Yesterday I got a watch. That made a big difference, I think, as I was able to see where I was at and know how much farther I had to go, timewise.
I also had my first dog run-in. I was running down a side-street, dimly lit, when all of a sudden I noticed a giant black dog screaming toward me. I had my iPod on (RadioLab), so I didn’t hear it, but when I saw it I screamed, “HEYYYYY!!! GET OUTTA HERE!” I was freakin’ loud, too. And I couldn’t stop looking back for a good minute and a half. It’s hard to run with your head cranked backwards.
So, overall, I feel really good about it. I’m still surprised every time I run a 5k. Like, that’s the easy run now. Freakin’ weird.
Oh, and I didn’t register for the race the other day like I said I would. FAIL. Soon, though. Maybe tonight?
