Last night as I was sitting on the couch with my legs up, I noticed that my left foot was tingly. As I write this, nearly a day later, it's still tingly. And quite annoying.
I didn't think much of it last night and, in fact, still worked out before bed. I figured I'd sleep it off. But this morning it was still tingly. It didn't hurt at all, but, as a worrier...I worried. I figured I had bad circulation, which meant one of two things: Either I have diabetes or my heart has quit on me. Totally rational, right?
So, I called the doctor and they agreed I should come in and get it checked out. I went to urgent care and took my pants off, like usual. In the room, of course. Turns out, the doctor the checked me runs marathons. What are the odds, right? In fact, he ran the half marathon at the race where I ran the 5k. And he's excited for me to run the Berbee Derby.
Obviously, it turned out not to be a big deal. He explained that I most likely aggravated a nerve, which, while annoying, isn't anything to freak out about. He said to give it a couple days and keep an eye out for lower back pain (I have none right now). He taught me a cool ankle stretch, too (you spell the alphabet with your foot). I'll have to push my run back from tomorrow to Sunday, but that's ok.
Even though it turned out to be pretty minor, I'm still really glad that I went. It was nice to learn from an expert (a doctor AND a marathon runner) and have my fears relieved.
Plus, at one point he looked at me and said, "NOW you're a runner!" and flashed a smile.
Nice.
